Yes, I have a page dedicated to Bailey. Why? Because she came into my life the minute she was born. Here is the story:
My neighbor is a Golden Retriever breeder, and a few years back, he was looking for help when he would go away on short weekends. He hired me, and on my first-weekend assignment, I was taking care of the dogs when Bailey's mom, Rosy, went into labor. I watched Bailey being born, and I didn't think she came out breathing at first. Then it seemed like Rosy went after Bailey (the reason I think Bailey has mohawk-style hair.) I pulled Bailey immediately from her, wiped her off, and tried to get her to latch onto her mom.
After several tries, she couldn't latch on, so I decided to take her with me. I immediately talked with the owner and googled it to see what I had to buy to feed her. I fed her every two hours for about a month. Then I noticed she had discharged coming out of her nose. So I made a vet appointment (owner's vet), who said she had an infection due to having a cleft palate (opening at the top of her mouth.) He also said that she would have problems with her back legs, and he recommended having her put down.
I cried all the way home from the vet. I called the owner and told him the vet's recommendations, and he said, " Well, I can't sell her, so if you want her, she is yours; otherwise, I will have to put her down. Well, that, folks, is history. Of course, I kept her! Look at her!!
Bailey is now 2 years old. We tried to have her cleft palate repaired (which is very hard to do.) She still has a tiny hole, but a lot of it was fixed, and she has issues with her back legs. She gets tired out quickly. She also has a smaller head than her siblings. Both her sisters live next door.
She is a bit overweight at the moment, which is my fault. In the early part of her exam, they told me that she would have difficulty putting on weight due to the cleft palate (not getting enough nutrients), so I fed her a lot.
We are now working on eating a well-balanced diet and getting plenty of exercise in mini-sessions. Bailey is a good dog and goes with me everywhere I go (when I can take her.) She even will go with me on errands and loves it.
