One of the top ten things I am asked about most is, "What do I wear when as a home based entrepreneur?" Do I wear pajamas, get dressed up or what? If you do research you will find that experts will tell you to dress as you were going to a corporate job. My answer, I guess that depends on what you do for a living.
I have two major businesses, I run a property management company and I coach home based entrepreneurs. My day consists of meeting clients, board members, and contractors. At any given time, I can be preparing for a meeting and get called out to an emergency where I have to walk into a basement filled with water or view damage on a property. My go to work wardrobe consists of jeans, a tank top and either a sweater or jacket to cover up. I choose this as my daily outfit because it provides me with flexibility. At one point I can be walking through a muddy field or sitting on the floor going through piles of paperwork with a client to then heading out to a meeting. It is easy for me to add accessories like a jacket, jewelry, and a pair of heels and look and feel presentable for a meeting. Simply put, it works for me. I don't wear PJ's. It's not because I wouldn't love to wear them all day while I work. It's because my environment and schedule doesn't allow me that luxury. Some people who wear pj's all day have a hard time getting focused and getting work done. My advice to those entrepreneurs who work from home is to pick out clothes that work for you and your environment. Bottom line - it comes down to this. Ask yourself, "Is the outfit I am wearing helping me to be more productive or less productive?"
