I have a lot of clients, family and friends ask me about my office.  Being a time management, organization and productivity coach, many people are interested to know if I actually live it.  The answer is YES!!

For those that don't know me, I run a few different businesses out of my home.  A property management company, my business coaching and I assist with my husband's business.  One of the most important aspects of working from home is having an office where I can close the door at anytime and be done for the day.  Here are 6 simple steps that help me stay organized and productive:

  • Surround yourself with beautiful items.  I am a visual person so I add colors and photos that I like to look at daily. I have personal photos and clippings from various magazines that I add to my Vision Board.
  • Label items.  I use every available space in my office but my office is extremely organized.  The majority of the items in my office is labeled.  Not only for the benefit of my assistants (and husband) but for me as well.  For someone who re-organizes frequently it makes it easier to find things quickly.
  • Re-organize when needed.  When you are working and you find that you are interrupted easily, or you have to sort through and find items you need for your project then re-organize your office to assist you with your time management flow.  When I am preparing for the following week I will always take the time to re-organize what isn't working for me.
  • Organize in groups.  I run a few different businesses so I group my the materials I need in a specific place.  My property management marketing supplies are in one area where my coaching marketing supplies are in another.  Most of the office supplies that my assistant would need is next to her desk while the office supplies or reference materials I need are by my desk.
  • Clean your desk daily.  When you are done for the day make sure your desk area is cleaned off and materials are put away.  Beginning your day with a clean office will put you in the right mindset to be productive.
  • Purge!  Take the time weekly or monthly and get rid of anything in your office that you are not using or haven't used over a year.  Clutter can pile up very easy especially when you are busy and working from home.

Having a beautiful, organized and clean office daily helps me to be more productive. I hope these 6 simple steps will help you in your office.  Need help in your office?  Send me an email and I would be glad to help you. In the meantime, let me hear your feedback.  How do you stay organized and productive working from home?

As always, here's to your success!
